PROMAG Consultancy Services was founded by Raju Swamy in April 1985. PROMAG started as a conventional broad-spectrum management consulting firm but, within a short period, as Raju realized that most clients were Family-owned Businesses, the focus gradually moved towards understanding and addressing the issues in Management and Governance that seemed unique to Family Businesses.

It also helped that Raju’s exposure to Family Business started in 1966, after passing out with the First Batch of IIMC, when he began his professional management career of nearly 20 years with the far-sighted family-promoted but professionally managed Private Sector Business Group in India – The ANAND Group – in the Automotive Products Industry (Gabriel/ Purolator/ Perfect Circle/ Victor Gaskets, etc).

Exposure to the World Management Congress in New York in 1989, and participation in multiple UNIDO Industrial Development Missions in Africa, in the early ‘90s, also reinforced the feeling that businesses across the world were predominantly Family-owned and managed.

Clients have included companies in traditional sectors like incense sticks, tobacco products, leather and paper-board packaging, and onwards into the IT sector, automotive components, automobile distribution, industrial and agro chemicals, electronic equipment, electrical insulation, and many others.

It must be acknowledged that the Partners of PROMAG’s First Family Business Client, the market leader in India in a traditional FMCG product, a national brand with a high recall value, were a great source of encouragement to Raju in developing both interest and knowledge in the area of Family Business Consulting, at the take-off stage. The Family Business is now managed by a competent third generation, after a well-planned succession process.

Family Business Consulting has been comprehensively in the areas of Management, Strategy, Structure, Governance, Succession, and Growth. It is our very strong belief, based on actual consulting experience with many Family Businesses over the last 32 years that while “Growth Perpetuates, Stagnation Kills”……..and we approach every Family Business Client with a clear focus on Growth as the binding force to ride the future together, successfully, over many generations.
