Challenges

Dictatorial decision-making control by the five founder-brothers.

More stagnation than growth in four of the five major businesses.

Over-populated in relation to size of the Family Business with founding fathers, sons, uncles, brothers, cousins fitted into businesses with high designations and salaries/ perks, and no accountability.

Value delivered to the Client

Met each Family Member in Business – FMB – to understand each person’s management capability as well as to establish a unified list of issues faced across all FMBs.

Held six meetings – once a month – with all FMBs together to arrive at a priority list of issues that needed resolution before an enforceable mutually acceptable Family Constitution could be evolved.

In the process of finalizing the Family Business Constitution, several inter-personal and inter-organization issues were also resolved.

The Families were then able to sit together over several meetings & discuss & approve the Draft Constitution prepared by the Consultant.

Resolved a major issue identified by the younger generation on the dictatorial attitude of the five Founder Generation Directors in holding up a very important inter-family agreement that prevented the adoption of a major decision that would enable some key investment decisions to be taken.
